After a stressful day away from home you turn onto Kueffler. You open the windows and enjoy the fresh air. As you drive through Beacon Rock State park you can feel the tension leave. The neighbor hood is quiet, the turkeys are running up the road and the deer come to the house for their corn. We have four different seasons and I can't pick a favorite. Spring is special because the cold and wet winter is over and the wildflowers are beautiful. Baby ducks are in the pond, and fawns are spotted hiding in the grass. Summer is a great time to sit at the pond and watch the fish jump. The Great Blue Heron agrees. You can tell when fall is approaching because the wind changes. It starts to feel crisp and the mornings will have a little bite to the air. The mountains around take on a lovely red and yellow before the leaves drop. The first snowfall of winter hits the mountains on the Oregon side first. The view from the kitchen window is always spectacular, but to watch the mountains turn white and seeing the snow drop lower and lower and suddenly it's snowing just outside your windows. The best part is knowing you have your firewood brought in for the evening and you can sit back and watch. The high vaulted roof makes it easy for the snow to slide off. The wood shed has been converted to a quest house with the same vaulted ceilings the main house has. There is an outside flushing toilet and a sink. There is a propane heater that we use a small tank for heating. The lines have been run for propane to the main tank but not yet hooked up. Same with the garage which has a propane heater. The barn/shop has 4 inch fiber reinforced concrete floors.
